Google Slides to Video Export Fixes
Answers and steps to resolve common technical queries and errors encountered when converting presentations into videos or GIFs.
Common Issues and Quick Resolutions
1. Slide Transitions and Animations Not Appearing in the MP4
A frequent question is whether Google Slides transitions (such as dissolve, fade, zoom) are preserved in the final video. Due to security and technological limitations of the Google Slides developer API, the underlying transition timeline is not exposed. Our renderer captures the finalized high-resolution layouts of each slide and applies your custom slide timings.
Workaround: If you need to simulate complex transition timing, split your content across multiple consecutive slides with progressive changes, or keep your slide duration long enough for viewers to read all the text comfortably.
2. Google Account Authorization Blocked or Permissions Required
When you start a conversion for the first time, Google requires you to grant the add-on permissions to process your slides. If this dialog does not appear or says permission is blocked, try the following steps:
- Refresh your Google Slides browser page.
- Click Create Video / GIF in the sidebar again. The add-on will check authorization status and trigger Google's standard consent popup.
- Ensure you are logged in to the same primary Google Account if you are using multiple browser profiles.
3. Video Export is Stopped After 3 Slides
If your converted MP4 video or GIF only displays the first 3 slides of your deck, it is because you are on the Free Trial Plan. The free plan limits video generation to the first three slides. Upgrading to our premium subscription allows you to render presentations of any slide length with background audio.
4. PowerPoint (PPTX) Conversion Support
Slides To Video is a native add-on built specifically for Google Workspace. If you have a PowerPoint file (.pptx), you can convert it to video by converting it to Google Slides first:
- Upload your PowerPoint file to Google Drive.
- Double-click to open it in Google Slides.
- Go to the menu and click File > Save as Google Slides.
- Launch the Slides To Video add-on on the new Slides file.
5. Failed Audio/Music Uploads
If your background music upload fails, check that your file size is reasonable (under 15MB) and in a standard audio format: MP3, WAV, M4A, or AAC. If a render fails due to an audio normalization error, try saving the file as a standard 128kbps MP3 and re-uploading.
