Convert Google Slides to Video: Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, direct answers to help you turn your presentation decks into polished slideshow videos and GIFs.
General Questions & Product Details
What is Slides To Video?
Slides To Video is a native Google Workspace add-on designed for Google Slides. It converts presentations into MP4 videos or GIF animations. This saves you from having to export slides as images and rebuild them in a manual video editing program.
What formats can I export?
You can export your slides to two main formats:
- MP4 Video: Ideal for sharing on YouTube, social media, sending via email, and playing on event screens. Supports background audio.
- GIF Animation: Perfect for short looping previews, inline email graphics, and lightweight web pages. Note that GIFs do not support audio tracks.
Can I add background music or voiceovers?
Yes, you can upload background music (MP3, WAV, M4A, or AAC) directly in the sidebar. Our render system trims and fades the track to fit your slideshow. For a detailed walkthrough, read our guide on How to Add Music to a Google Slides Video.
Why did my video export fail or only convert 3 slides?
Our free trial plan allows you to convert the first 3 slides to evaluate the system. To export full presentations with no slide limits, you must subscribe to our premium plan. For fixing common export errors, read our Google Slides Video Export Troubleshooting Guide.
Do you support Google Slides transition animations?
Google Slides transitions (like fade, dissolve, or slide-in) are not supported because Google's APIs do not expose these animations. Instead, the add-on renders each slide layout as a high-quality static image. For timing recommendations, see our troubleshooting page.
Where do I install the add-on?
You can install it directly from the Google Workspace Marketplace at this link. Once installed, it is available under the Extensions menu in any Google Slides presentation.
Can I convert Microsoft PowerPoint (PPTX) presentations?
Yes. Simply upload your PowerPoint file to Google Drive, open it in Google Slides, click File > Save as Google Slides, and then open the Slides To Video add-on to export your presentation as an MP4 or GIF.
